What Lies Within Us

I recently began studying Buddhism.  From what I’ve been told so far by other members…I’m a natural.  It seems most of my fundamental beliefs have been those of Buddhist for generations and yet I don’t seem any more enlightened  nor is my life free of discontent.  I, like all others before me, must work everyday on calming my personal demons while learning to focus my attention on what needs to be accomplished…today..   The world continues to revolve whether or not I exist and it exacts on me the same joys and griefs as anyone else.  It is what we do in each moment that truly defines our existence.  I read another saying today that truly exemplifies that power within us.

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters to what lies within us”

I’ve read this saying  before but can’t yet say where..Maybe in “The Secret” which is a book I highly recommend.  It reinforces some of the same principles as Buddhism regarding chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo.  It is believed that if you chant this while focusing on what you want then it will one day come to you.  I’ve always believed in focusing the mind in order to accomplish any goal.  Also, that prayer, even though something I’ve never truly practiced or accepted, is both mystical and powerful.    It is all beyond my scope of understanding and yet I know  there is a force greater then myself..not a God or diety, but a universal energy, one that permeates every atom of every being.   I seek only to channel that energy, to embrace it if  but for a few moments in time.
